Guide: How to Get a Tattoo
It’s your first tattoo, you have no idea how to get started, and you’d rather not walk into a tattoo shop not knowing what to expect. Let this be your guide for getting your first permanent work of art.
#1 - Know What You want
Always remember that tattoos are permanent. Unless the idea of getting shot repeatedly with a laser sounds okay with you, they’re not going anywhere...ever. So please, please, please do your research. Look at other good tattoos; visit your local bookstore and check out some of the magazines on tattoos, these usually have good art. There’s also some decent work on websites like Pinterest and Tumblr. This research is just to get an idea of the type of tattoo you want.
Try searching some keywords: Traditional Tattoo; Black and Grey Tattoo; Portrait Tattoo; Neo-Traditional Tattoo; or get into specifics like, Geometrical Tattoo or Abstract Tattoo.
We definitely recommend, though, checking out the work of the tattoo artists in your area, like us! We have work on our DORK Tattoo Parlour page and our Instagram:
Also, start considering whether you would like a black and grey tattoo, or a color tattoo. As well as, how big you’d like it and where you would like it.
If you really have no idea and would just love a unique piece by the artist, then let them know! Artists at the DORK Tattoo Parlour have unique portfolios of work already drawn up and ready to be tattooed. We will also customize work to fit the aesthetic you want.
#2 - Think About It
Is this really what you want? Of course it is...so next step!
#3 - Set an appointment
At DORK Tattoo Parlour! Now you got a good idea of what you want and wish to take it to the next step. There’s two easy ways to set an appointment:
Online, using our website (link in the button below). You pay a deposit that goes towards the final price of your tattoo. Please call or email in advance to make sure the date you want is available.
Come into the shop. We’d be happy to set up an appointment for you. A deposit is still required and will go towards the final price of your tattoo.
#4 - Come in as Scheduled
You scheduled an appointment and made a deposit, now all that’s left is to get the tattoo! We highly recommend you come in on the scheduled date, because deposits are non-refundable. The deposit goes towards booking your appointment, and designing your tattoo. For more information on how much the deposit is, visit the deposit page on our website (click the 'online deposit' button).
Now you’re a pro at getting a tattoo and you’re going to come back for more, right? Riiight? We hope so.
Feel free to email us with any questions or concerns.
